Become A Friend of Downtown Chestertown!

Join us in preserving the integrity of our historic downtown while maintaining a vibrant business and community environment relevant to 21st century life by becoming a Friend of Downtown Chestertown!

Your $35 membership will help us continue our mission and enable us to work to make downtown Chestertown a downtown for everyone.

The excitement is just beginning as restaurants and caterers from throughout Kent County get on board for our 4th Annual Taste of the Town – this year in the heart of historic Downtown Chestertown in Fountain Park! Here’s a sneak peek at who’ll be cooking for you!!

You’ll also have the chance to check out the final event of Chestertown’s 2nd Annual “Paint the Town” weekend.  Artists from around the region who will paint on location in Kent County and Chestertown beginning Thursday, April 28, will compete in a 2-hour “Quick Draw” in Chestertown, Sunday morning, May 1.   At noon, artists will bring their paintings to Fountain Park for the opening of Taste of the Town, whose attendees will vote for their favorite painting for the coveted “People’s Choice” award.

How does the Advance Pass work? You can purchase an Advance Pass until Wednesday, April 28 for $12. Redeem your pass at the door for $14 in food tickets (you scored $2 free food tickets!). Each restaurant will offer sampler plates for 1 to 3 tickets. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for 1 ticket. Beer and Wine for sale by the glass. Once you’re there you can purchase additional food tickets in $1 increments.

You can also just show up and pay at the door - $12 gets you 12 food tickets.

We highly recommend you purchase an Advance Pass early!! Why?

The restaurants must place their food orders at the beginning of the week, and they’ll do that based on the number of Advance Passes sold. Sure, they’ll factor in some folks coming that day, but it’s hard to know if that will be a few or a lot! We all want to be sure there’s enough food to go around, so if we know in advance you’re coming we’ll be sure to have plenty prepared!

We also suggest checking this website the week of Taste of the Town for important updates, information about the layout and parking, and where to redeem your Advance Pass for food tickets. This is the first time we’ve been located in Fountain Park, and we’re still working on the logistics. Thanks for bearing with us!

Proceeds from Taste of the Town will benefit projects of the Downtown Chestertown Association, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting a thriving downtown environment with a small town quality of life for all.

TASTE OF THE TOWN DEBUTS NEW FORMAT FOR 2011

Taste of the Town, the annual Chestertown event featuring sampling plates from town restaurants and caterers, will offer its fourth event with some interesting changes.

Traditionally held in Wilmer Park on a late April Sunday, this year that date falls on Easter Sunday. With the possibility of weather being unpredictable earlier in the month, organizers moved the date to May 1, only to find that Wilmer Park was unavailable. With the guidance of Bill Ingersoll and Jen Mulligan at the Town office, the decision was made to move Taste of the Town to Fountain Park in the heart of downtown Chestertown.

There has been interest since Taste of the Town began in having the event in Fountain Park, but the nature of the location presented challenges which gave organizers pause. But with the streamlining of last year’s event – banquet table seating, smaller live auction and raffles – suddenly the idea of using Fountain Park seemed more manageable.

Change of venue is not the only difference in this year’s Taste of the Town. Confident that they have the logistics down pat in their fourth year, organizers are expanding the event to include restaurants and caterers from all of Kent County. “We wanted to strengthen Taste of the Town this year so that people wouldn’t think it was just the same thing again. Opening it up to restaurants and caterers throughout the County gives it a fresh feel and variety, allowing us to showcase even more of the great foods and chefs of our area”, said DCA President Nancy McGuire.

Restaurants and caterers interested in participating should contact Andy Goddard at 443-480-1987 or andysctown@verizon.net by February 10.
